Planning for Real to work with Bradford Trident on community budget pilot

Planning for Real is delighted to be working with Bradford Trident, one of 14 areas selected to be a community budget pilot, to engage with residents in a debate around the quality of a range of services they currently receive.

Using the Planning for Real® methodology we will be asking local people for their opinions and suggestions on the services that are currently available and what an improved service delivery would look like. The process will give residents the opportunity to work with the different service provider representatives in developing improved service delivery in their area.

Bradford Trident was selected in December 2011 as one of 10 ‘neighbourhood level’ areas which will develop community budgets to give residents a micro-local level say over the services they want and use. The local community will play a leading role to shape local services so they work from a customer’s perspective.

Bradford Trident is a community led company working to transform the Park Lane, Marshfields and West Bowling areas of Bradford. The company was formed in 2000 to deliver the government’s New Deal for Communities programme and received £50m in total over the period 2000-2010. Since 2000 it has commissioned over 200 separate projects aimed at improving the quality of life in the area. Bradford Trident is now operating as a social enterprise working closely with the Community Council and the local community to identify services that are needed locally and continually seeking innovative ways of resourcing local needs.

On being selected as a community budget pilot, Mick Binns, the chief executive of Bradford Trident, said:

“It is a logical step and I am absolutely delighted,” Mr Binns said. “We have been in the community for 12 years and work closely with Bradford Council, but we are currently not direct service providers. We will work with public service providers and help to plan services locally and could be involved with commissioning services and having a say on how things should be delivered more effectively.”

We look forward to working alongside Bradford Trident, the Community Council and local residents over the coming months.
