Moreton-in-Marsh Community Event, 9th October 2024

The Moreton-in-Marsh Community Event was held on 9th October 2024 at the St. David’s Centre, Church Street, Moreton-in-Marsh and ran from 12.30 to 5.30pm to capture the community’s vision for future development in the coming years.

Post it Note activity

The practical, hands-on event was hosted by Cotswold District Council and facilitated by Planning for Real and followed on from the Council’s formal consultation on the Cotswold District Local Plan Update held earlier in 2024.  Attending the event were local resident representatives, as well as representatives from businesses and organisations local to the town; County, District and Town Councillors and Parish Council Clerks; as well as Officers from Gloucestershire County Council.

The focus of the event was to gain a better understanding of the local community’s view of the issues and opportunities affecting Moreton-in-Marsh today, to explore how the community see Moreton in the future and how needs can be met in the coming years, and to input into the Terms of Reference and membership of the Moreton-in-Marsh Working Group which will represent the views of residents, businesses, and local organisations to the Council on the Local Plan Update.

SWOT analysis

Following welcome and introductions made by the Leader of the Council and the Chief Executive, participants engaged in a range of activities which included a post it note activity which identified what participants valued and liked about Moreton-in-Marsh; what they would like to see change; and what they would not like to see change.  Following a presentation about the Local Plan process, participants undertook a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis based on six different themes.  The SWOT analysis then led into a mapping activity which enabled participants to place on a large map of Moreton-in-Marsh their suggestions and concerns for the future based on the six themes used for the SWOT analysis.  Participants were also given the opportunity to feed into the make up of a new Working Group and to identify the ways in which they would like to see the community kept informed and involved going forward.

A Report of the outcomes from the event was produced by the Planning for Real Unit and published on the Council’s website.

Update:  Cotswold District Council are holding a follow up Community Feedback Event in Moreton-in-Marsh in February (2024).
